The Town of Hluboká

The Town of Hluboká nad Vltavou is a smaller tower upstream of the Vltava River. It may not be one of the biggest, but it is certainly one of the best known. The most popular tourist sites are the château and château gardens. Families with children will certainly enjoy the South Bohemian Zoological Gardens. The atmosphere of the city is enhanced by a square with the local brewery, a church, shops and the local port, which comes to life thanks to the popularity of the Vltava waterway.

Hluboká Château

The Neo-Gothic château from the 13th century stands on the peak of the town. It can be seen from many sides and offers a beautiful view of the surroundings (whether you come by road or water) by both day and night. The château under the administration of the National Heritage Institute is atypical compared to other landmarks. It offers several sightseeing routes in summer and stays open even in the winter, when special tours are prepared for visitors. The vast château gardens have a nature trail and views into the surrounding countryside.

Aleš South Bohemian Art Gallery

Next to the castle is the Riding School and the Aleš South Bohemian Art Gallery. One of the largest galleries of its kind in the country, offering both permanent exhibits and thematic exhibitions of world-class quality. As such, we recommend that you check current exhibitions, since people from all over the country and abroad are now arriving to view them.

South Bohemian Zoological Garden

The local zoo is situated on the banks of Munický Pond. This location makes it possible to arrive at the zoo by boat, which is a nice experience, especially for children. Over 300 species of animals from different parts of the world await you at the zoo. The most popular include tigers, meerkats, desert cats, bears and otters. Of course, you can visit your favorites in several pavilions and outdoor exhibitions. The zoo in Hluboká organizes many special events. The zoo is not only an area with enclosures, but during the year several special events take place every month – from theater performances for children, guided evening tours to themed days dedicated, for example, to young or selected species of animals.

You can find a place to relax by the Vltava River along the bike path to České Budějovice. The most comprehensive center in south Bohemia has lawns for relaxation and picnics, a restaurant and sports facilities. And if you are an active visitor, you can look forward to a rope climbing park, adventure mini-golf, a boulder wall, beach volleyball, a baseball simulator, skate and sports equipment rentals and a workout park. Smaller kids can have fun in the children's world of bouncy castles, toys and jungle gyms – Špuntárium, a children's rope climbing attraction and a wooden castle.
